A ballad about leaving an abusive relationship, and a love song to my first car.

This version of Prayer Wheel was recorded and produced by Phil Surkis and is labeled “Draft 2.” I’m not sure how many drafts he ended up making, but this is the latest one I received before losing contact with him. It is the most complete recording I have of this song, so I am sharing it here despite the “draft” status. We are all works in progress, after all.

Melody, Lyrics, Guitar and Vocals: Kaitie Ty Warren
Everything Else: Phil Surkis

Lyrics:

I lived a lifetime of seclusion
I lived, and learned how to not to feel
You were a friend: my first taste of freedom
You opened the door, and said “Get behind the wheel

And give it a spin, cuz I’m not going back there
Take me away, let’s go find some place real
They always say you can never go home again
So give it a spin…
this is my prayer wheel

I’ve lost my sense of inclusion
My sense of my self
And my trust in you
These wedding rings, they used to mean Safety
Now I look at my bare hands, at the 10 and the 2

And give it a spin, cuz I’m not going back there
Take me away, let’s go find some place real
They always say you can never go home again
So give it a spin…
this is my prayer wheel

[Instrumental break]

I stand on my own two feet now
Here in the sand, they’re cold but they’re mine
I’m slowly regaining my body
Surrendering my breath, reclaiming my mind

I’ll stay – it’s just you and me now
These waves have washed my life clean
You say, “I’ll be your roof and walls,
Hold me and pray; I am your Prayer Wheel”

So give it a spin, cuz I’m not going back there
Take me away, let’s go find some place real
They always say you can never go home again
So give it a spin…
this is my prayer wheel
This is my prayer wheel
This is my prayer wheel
This is my prayer wheel
