I was doing a virtual songwriters’ challenge and the prompt of the week was “Mama.”

At the time, I had a 2 year old and next to zero time, so all the songs I submitted were last-minute improvisations, including this one.

It’s not actually a lament…but the inspiration was certainly a lament about my lack of time. And, fittingly, this song wants to be sung often when I’m feeling rushed or pressed for time.

Fitting for lots of moments, but dedicated to all the parents and caregivers who don’t know what to do with themselves when they get that rare hour alone and have a million different things to do so they just…don’t do any of them.

Lyrics:
What do I do with this hour
It’s just not enough time
I could take a shower
Or drink a glass of wine
Maybe tackle that phone call
Or finally read something
But who am I kidding
I’m not gonna do that
I’m using my time to sing

(teaching tracks for harmonies are forthcoming)
