Grain of Sand
by Kaitie Ty Warren
This song was recorded in the laundry room of my North Hollywood apartment, little by little. I made up the harmonies as I went along, wanting a feeling of everybody and everything in the world singing along. I have never fully untangled the harmonies since.
This song has been performed live twice, once with a band who did an outstanding job (I hope to retrieve a recording of that someday). I look forward to many more times it will be shared, and a recording that incorporates more instruments.
My bestie, Azarius (songwriter for Billy’s Prayer), send me a voicememo of him accompanying me on piano. It was an improvisation I truly hope he’ll be able to recreate when recording day comes. It’s so beautiful, I’m sharing that voicememo here, below the original (laundry room) recording.

Lyrics:
Oooh
The candles burn/the moon is bright/and you take my hand
The glasses are full/the storms alight/and we are here again
Oooh, it’s all contained in this one grain of sand/Oooh, it’s all contained in this one grain of sand
The fossils are dug, the battles are fought/and the Earth begins to quake
The painters elope, the protestors march/and we begin to wake
Oooh, it’s all contained in this one grain of sand/Oooh, it’s all contained in this one grain of sand
Sweet Pea, stay with me/look for me on a distant tree/floods and rain won’t cause us pain/we are not so small
The grasses grow high/the tides wash away, and we are here again
The stones overturn/the Souls recognize and you take my hand
Oooh, it’s all contained in this one grain of sand/Oooh, it’s all contained in this one grain of sand…
