Maternity Leave – but Choir continues!

Hello friends!

Our beautiful Zoom Summer Session ended the other week, but we continue to gather. Last week we met just long enough to pray/meditate/sing together with one song: O Water, sending the chant out to cool ourselves, our collective community, and of course, most importantly, the raging fires that are causing so much distress and crisis in our hemisphere. We welcome you to sing along with the tracks, and if you listen to “Just the Chant” you can easily pour whatever melody or prayer you like over the top of the chant, which is what we did. Listen to, and sing along with, O Water.

We’re sending our prayers for everyone’s safety at this time.

Despite the tumult, we feel strongly that gathering (even on Zoom) to sing and be together in a musical heart space is incredibly healing and powerful. With that, we invite you to join Living Room Choir this fall from anywhere in the world, via Zoom:

Our upcoming schedule:

Living Room Choir Director Kaitie Ty Warren will be on maternity leave September-December, 2020.

However, Kaitie’s amazing choir counterpart Sara Stutz will be holding the community open with drop-in singing September 10-December 3rd!

  • Thursday nights 7-8:30pm PST
  • September 10-December 3rd (minus Thanksgiving)
  • on Zoom
  • It will be organic and exciting, and other song leaders are likely in the wings as well!
  • Every night will be a Drop-In, so come to one or come to all!
  • Sliding scale offering; no one turned away for lack of funds.
  • Please email Sara <smstutzpt@gmail.com> to receive details and/or sign up for her announcements!

Make sure to Contact Us if you want to get on the mailing list for future announcements about when Kaitie will return!

Insta-choir: just add people, and make a musical community online! Living Room Choir uses simple yet lush harmonies to build the teaching of songs, live, over Zoom, and create a communal experience using music as a vehicle. Leader Kaitie Ty Warren teaches original songs, as well as songs from around the world, in the oral tradition – no musical experience necessary! – and although we will mostly be muted (since Zoom won’t allow us to sing in sync) we will be psychically and visually connected through song. Come with an open mind and be ready to sing, dance and/or listen in harmonic community; all ages welcome.

Kaitie Ty Warren has been leading Living Room Choir and communal singing workshops since 2014. She is part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network, an international web of choirs that believes it’s everybody’s birthright to sing. She writes original songs and also teaches folk songs from around the world, continually studying in a worldwide network of songleaders to pursue integrity and accuracy when teaching songs from other cultures. She had tremendous respect for music as a community vehicle, and believes in inclusivity and diversity in musical practice. During shelter-in-place, she continues her community building song-centered workshops and Living Room Choir online.

About Living Room Choir Online:

Living Room Choir is a culture of joy, stress-reduction, and meaningful connection with self and others.

Living Room Choir uses simple yet lush harmonies to build the teaching of songs, live, over Zoom, and create a communal experience using music as a vehicle.

We practice harmony in community while practicing harmony in song.

Leader Kaitie Ty Warren teaches original songs, as well as songs from around the world, in the oral tradition. No sight reading or musical experience necessary. You will receive recorded teaching tracks of many of the songs we practice, so that you can sing along at home between rehearsals.

Although we will mostly be muted as a group (since Zoom won’t allow us to sing in sync) we will still be psychically and visually connected through song.

We are part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network, an international choirs community which believes its everybody’s birthright to sing.

Come with an open mind and be ready to sing, dance and/or listen in harmonic community.

All ages and newcomers are always welcome – no musical experience necessary.

Song Village Sampler this Sunday!

All are welcome!

Song Village Sampler

Sunday, May 17, 2-4pm Pacific Time, online!

Join 16 song leaders from up and down the west coast in a very special 2-hour songfest. Although we can’t meet in person for the weekend-long Song Village, that will not stop us from meeting!

Song Village is usually held as a weekend-long camping trip in the Santa Cruz mountains; I am delighted that, despite covid precautions, it’s not deleted completely, but instead will be represented in this online form. And I’m delighted to be one of the song leaders!

All the events details be found here:

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-song-village-sampler-tickets-103153139818

We’ll see you there!
